Dolphin watching

IThe Gulf of Taranto is an area of great cetological value: since ancient times it has hosted dolphins and sperm whales due to the conformation of its waters which reach important depths just a few meters from the coast.

Therefore, sailing not very far from the coast it is possible to meet with great probability groups of bottlenose dolphins, dolphins and sperm whales as they swim in a flock and jump out of the water showing their acrobatics with great recklessness.

Scholars research and protect these cetaceans every day by promoting responsible tourism, a value that we at Charter in Puglia share with respect for the entire sea ecosystem at heart.

To allow our guests to have a truly exclusive experience, we have decided to make our rafts available to "walk" with the dolphins in their natural habitat and spot the large cetaceans of the Gulf ... prepare your handkerchiefs because it will be impossible to contain the 'emotion!

The myth of Taras and the legendary origins of the city

Saccording to a Greek legend, Taras he was the son of the nymph Satyria and the god of the sea Poseidon and he was in charge of a Greek fleet that landed at the mouth of a river that later took his name. On the banks of the stream he began to make sacrifices to thank his father for a good trip when suddenly he saw a dolphin jump into the river. Convinced it was a good omen, he founded Saturo in honor of his mother. While one day Taras was on the bank of the river named after him, he fell into the water and his body was never found. The legend spread that his father wanted him with him as a hero and it was thus that since then he was revered as a deity: this is the reason why Taranto, named after the hero, has Taras as a symbol who rides a dolphin, while holding in the right hand a vessel for sacrifice and in the left a trident, symbol of the father Poseidon.
